Mamer Schlass

Mamer, Luxembourg

When you think of administrative buildings, you usually think of buildings that have fallen out of time and lack aesthetics and charm. The example of the Luxembourg municipality of Mamer, which has renovated a meeting room in the Mamer Schlass, built in 1830, shows that there is another way. Historic buildings are combined here with modern technology and an inviting atmosphere for important local government decision-making meetings.

The architecture firm Jim Clemes Associates has created a design for this in which fine walnut slats manufactured by the joinery Vincent Messerich give the Salle du Conseil the necessary practicality around the entire space and also conceal doors and cupboards. Custom-made furniture with wooden fronts meets the room’s centrepiece: the U-shaped conference table made of solid surface material.

Design

Made by us in immaculate white Corian® Glacier White, the table seats up to 19 council members and appears completely seamless. As if chiselled from white marble, it creates an aesthetic bridge between old and new. The feel of the silk-matt object also conveys a sense of robust value.

Implementation

The edges of the table taper off at an angle, making the furniture appear light as a feather. The inside corners are made to measure at a 45° angle to create a razor-sharp contour. For the subsequent invisible installation of the conference technology, the table is provided in individual parts with precise cut-outs and glued seamlessly into a single unit on site by the Ropers joinery.
