Hamburg's new landmark rises on the base of the former Kaispeicher warehouse on the Elbe: The Elbphilharmonie is probably one of the most spectacular concert halls in the world, the architecture - inside and out - is unique; the musical enjoyment for connoisseurs is indescribable. The outstanding acoustics in the Great Hall, the heart of the Philharmonie, are particularly renowned.

The architects Herzog & de Meuron worked closely with the world-famous Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota on the design for the perfect sound. The result, the White Skin, scatters the sound precisely into every corner of the hall with over a million shell-shaped valleys.

Design

Peuckert GmbH, which was commissioned to handle the White Skin project, approached Hasenkopf to manufacture the acoustic elements. Not only the acoustic, but also the technical and logistical challenges are enormous: over a period of 7 years, 10,287 unique pieces are milled from the gypsum fiber reinforced concrete material GIFAtec® with our 5-axis CNC machines to cover the 6,000m² area.

Implementation

After 352 million lines of code, over 1.5 million kilometers of milling, the use of over 1,000 diamond-tipped milling heads and 125,000 stainless steel screws, the largest project in the company's history to date has become a reality and is something to be proud of. Subsequently, the 3D-machined parapet ends made of oak wood and the seamless reception counters and bar counters made of Corian® are also manufactured by us.
